Star Gazing

We have managed to acquire equipment for STAR GAZING that works for daytime bird and wildlife observation too…….

Apple Hill is situated well away from the closest village and as there are no nearby light sources, we get some pretty fantastic views of our universe. In fact some nights when the moon is not visible there are simply too many stars for the inexperienced eye!

We have purchased three sets of Bushnell Legacy binoculars and tripods for your star gazing enjoyment. They will allow you to move many youth thru the stars in the night sky as opposed to a single telescope. The binoculars were purchased specifically for night time viewing, allowing more light to be captured thus making the stars as bright as possible. Although a bit on the heavy side, they also work very well during the daytime for bird and other wildlife observation. The tripods have been obtained to hold the binoculars steady and keep them pointed in the right direction.

So you are not an astronomer and have no clue whether that light point is a planet, moon, satellite, star or visiting alien. Looked at that point of light and always wondered what it’s name is and how far away it is. You are a Scout having problems locating Polaris. Don’t worry we have a solution for that. Through the generous donation of a fellow scouter we have acquired a SKY SCOUT.  Never heard of one of these? This is a personal planetarium combining the properties of a GPS and a large astronomical databank that will tell you about, and most importantly, where celestial objects are. You will look like a pro.

Cost:     $30.00 for the weekend. Please book ahead.
